The
College is managed by the state Government Of Orissa and is
affiliated to the Sambalpur University. The M.B.B.S. course was
recognized by the Medical Council of India ,in the Year 1967. In
course of time the admission strength was raised from 50 (1959)
to 140 (1962) and then to 200 (1963) and now reduce to 107
science many years.
The College has got one teaching
hospital under the direct supervision of a superintendent, for
practical training of both undergraduates and postgraduates.
originally, the College hospital started functioning in the
buildings transferred from the Hirakud Dam Project with a bed
strength of 54. These buildings were later converted into
Obstetrics and Gynecology wards and now accommodate the
Pediatrics and Psychiatry departments. the teaching bed
strength increased from year to year and now the hospital has a
total bed strength of 772 .
The College imparts training in
M.B.B.S. course of 5.5 years duration,including one year
for compulsory rotating internship ,Field training of House
staff is being conducted in the Rural Health Centres at Attabira
and Urban Health Center at Sadeipalli ,In addition the scheme of
Reoriention of Medical Education is being implemented in three
P.H.C's at Bheden,Bhatli& Paharsirigida.
A Post Portum Programme is also
functioning in the College.
There are P.G.Degree Course in all
major specialities ,of 3 years duration for candidate admitted
into R.H.S. ,assignment and 2 years for inservice doctors.
Para Medical Training Course are
also provision for training of Laboratory
Technicians,Radiographers and Ophthamic Assistants .Diploma in
Pharmacy course and Sanitary Inspectors Training have also been
functioning in recent past.
